Skyway Yacht Works Harbor Service
Not all maintenance shows itself while you’re in the boatyard. If you break down or something needs repair while you’re in Hammond Marina, a Chicago area harbor, or Lake Michigan this summer, Skyway Yacht Works Harbor Service is there to take care of your boat’s needs. We're sensitive to the short season and the urgency of having your boat on the weekends.
Whether you need help with your auxiliary engine, saildrive, impeller, pump, rigging, plumbing, head, or air conditioning, we can get you back on the water. Just give us a call and we’ll be at your harbor. We'll take care of your problem so you can take care of relaxing!
Auxiliaries
With engines, there are four basic systems that can let you down in the summer:
- Fuel Filter – Change annually.
- Impellers – Cooling system, failure leads to overheating and potential damage.
- Batteries – Batteries have a finite life. We recommend changing them at 3–5 years.
- Belts – Belts don't last forever, look for cracks and frayed edges.
Of these 4 items, the most often overlooked and certainly the most important is probably the belts—they run the fuel pump (in some cases), the water pump (impeller) and the alternator (batteries). Don’t forget power steering.
All four of these, if left unattended, can lead to a catastrophic engine failure, likely occurring at the most inopportune time.
A good maintenance schedule can keep you moving all summer long. However, in the event that you missed something over the winter, we will be there for you in the summer.
Standing & Running Rigging
With sailboats, it is a good idea to remove all of your running rigging over the winter to minimize the degradation of the lines. But if you lose a halyard or have a problem with your furler, we can come to the harbor and get you going.
