Notice of Event

-Power Boaters will pick up a card at the start and the finish.  The 1st card will be in a sealed envelope containing Skyway Promotional Items at the beginning of the event in Calumet Harbor and the 2nd card will be in a sealed envelope containing Crowley’s promotional items at the finishing area near the Shedd Aquarium.  Come to Columbia Yacht Club for a prize to be determined the day of the event.

-Power boats may pick up their first card up to 15 minutes after the last sailboat has started

-Power boaters will stay out of the starting area until all sailboats have crossed the starting line

-Power boaters will give all sailors a wide birth between the starting area and the finish area

Sailboats and Power boats shall get along and be friendly toward each other for this event (and hopefully for the rest of the summer)

-The event will start from a line extending the Calumet Harbor break wall to the east between the end of the wall and a boat.

-Sailing Participants shall sail on course approximately northward to the bell buoy just north and east of the 68th St. water intake crib (MWRD pumping station)

-After passing the buoy on the port side of the boat, participants will head north and west toward the Shedd Aquarium.

-Boats will finish between a white polyhedron mark and a Columbia Yacht Whaler.

Power boating Participants can meander up to the city in any course they desire

The approximate location of the finish line will be found in sailing instructions which will be posted on skywayyachtworks.com here –

http://www.skywayyachtworks.com/regatta-documents under Dash to the Dock in the Boater Resources tab

and on the SYW app for iPhone and Android.

Go to the iPhone App Store or the Google Play Store and download the app for free.

Starts will be posted in the sailing instructions available to registered participants

8.1 For sailing vessels time on distance scoring will be utilized

8.2 Since handicap is calculated at Beginning of Race, first to cross the finish line is first; Second to cross the finish line is Second; and third to cross the finish line is Third, etc.

8.5 Boats failing to finish by the calculated time it takes for the fastest boat to finish plus the time differential between the fastest and slowest boat plus 15 minutes may get to the finish area and find that the finish line boat has left and there is not a boat to hail and no mark and no finish line.  Sorry about that, we will be at the bar.

If available, prizes will be determined and awarded on May 14, 2016 (probably not)  Call your yacht club and ask them what they have planned for the day of the event.

Competitors participate in the regatta entirely at their own risk. See RRS 4, Decision to Race. The race organizers (OA, Race Committee, Protest Committee, sponsors, or any other organization or official) will not accept any liability for material damage or personal injury including death sustained in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after the regatta. By participating in this race, each participant agrees to release the race organizers from any and all liability associated with such participant’s participation in this event to the fullest extent permitted by law.

Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of $300,000 per event or the equivalent.

There shall be no whining!  And no sniveling either! You are permitted to have fun—period.  For additional information please contact Skyway Yacht Works by email at skywaysocial@gmail.com

This is supposed to be a family fun day Event.  Assume every boat has someone’s Grandmother on board!  Act accordingly.
